A garage door keypad allows entry without a key or remote. But what if you forgot your garage door code? Here’s what you can do when that happens.

Hit the Garage Door Reset Button

In most cases, when we forgot our code, resetting the garage door keypad is fairly straightforward. You’ll need to access the motor of the garage door opener, located along the rail above the garage door. Use a stepladder and be careful while accessing the motor.

On the motor, you’ll find a button or knob labeled “reset” or “learn.” This button is used when pairing new accessories with the door and when resetting the keypad. Hold the button for a few seconds, and the indicator light near the button should turn off. This means that the keypad has been reset.

Now, press the button again, and the indicator light should turn on. At this point, you can go to the keypad and enter the new code. The light should start blinking, and you can then hit the reset button one last time to finalize the process.

Use the Forgot Code Button on Your Mobile App

The latest garage door accessories come with a wide range of new features. In many cases, this includes Wi-Fi connectivity to access a connected app through your phone or other devices. If you have such a device, resetting your code is very easy.

You’ll be able to access various settings and information through the connected app. Within those settings, you’ll find an option to manage the keypad code. From there, you can change the code as needed. These apps also often provide the option to set multiple codes and delete them independently, so you can manage access.
